How to support your immune system...
Over the past year, health has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds especially how to support our immune system. Supporting our immune system on a regular basis is vital for maintaining overall health.
Improving your immunity is easier said than done but there are various dietary and lifestyle changes you can make to help strengthen your body’s natural defences. Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best things we can do to support our overall wellbeing, and is closely linked with immunity.
Adding whole plant foods into your diet such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes, which are rich in vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants can also be beneficial. They can help to reduce inflammation within the body and feed your gut microbiome which can improve your immunity.
Additionally, including healthy fats like olive oil and omega 3’s found in salmon and chia seeds, may also help to fight inflammation within the body.
Finally, there is a lot of talk around supplements, and whilst many vitamins and minerals can support your immunity, it is best to consume as part of a varied balanced diet where possible. Vitamin D is the main supplement everyone is recommended to take within the UK due to the limited sun exposure we get throughout the winter months.
